It has come to my attention that a very ugly lie his being spread about way I left the CHA board. Here is the truth!
When I was given the game times and ice schedule for the midgets I was very up set, 6 blocks of weekend game ice time was given to them before they even had a team. (Why wasn’t this ice time given to the younger teams and give the midget more home ices after the team was set?) NO ONE would not answer me I asked Roy Hartman the president that told me that Craig Duncan was in charge of who and what ice got given to who. I asked Craig who told me that Charlie Watson gave him the ice times Charlie told me it was Craig doings Craig said it was Charlie doings and so on. Roy said it wasn’t his trouble; no one could get anything right. No one would set down and give me a straight answer! Maha and USA said they should be 4 hours between games we had only 1:15 and the only other ice left was 5:00 and 9:00 pm on Fridays when the high school team was out of town. The whole thing turn into a big joke. I ask parents and even the midget coach to come to a board meeting and Stand up for the rights of the midgets player that in the past year pay the most money get the less ice and the worst times. When the meeting started No one had the balls to show up! When I tried to bring to up Roy swipe it under the table said nothing could be done until the high school draft and Craig Duncan didn’t even show up. I looked around the room and thought this is not why I was on the board (I was going without sleep staying up all night worrying about this and no one but me cared) I was the Rep for CHA to the Northern Michigan Hockey League (which goes to meeting in Gaylord every month and repot all the games and was to do the midget game schulding I also did the www.cheboyganhockey.com and the www.nmhl.org web sites I guess no one cared but me. I told Roy that it was going to be hard getting someone to drive from 2 to 3 hours away to play a Friday 9:00pm game and get home at 2 pm to get up and play on Saturday at regular times he said we did it when we played travel (Well this is travel and gas wasn’t over $3.00 a Gal) just do it. So when I went to the schulders meeting I had the time given to me By Charlie Not what I picked but the only times I could have so.
I could only get 26 games with teams. At the meeting teams were laughing it me about the times. Mackinaw said look if you want better times more games bring your kid and come up here we would love to have you as a coach and Robby as a player we only have 11 kids now! So I thought long and hard and said Robby will get twice the ice time and will get to be a better hockey player on a team of 12 playing 50 games then a team of 20 playing 30 games. So I handed in my key resign from the board and when to Mackinaw. Were I coach and scheduler for Mackinaw and Do the NMHL.
1: It is a sad Day when the adult teams get Ice before the youth team!
2: It is a sad Day when kids play until 10:30 at night.
3: It a sad Day when the kids health takes a back set to in convince of parent not wanting to wait 3 to 4 hours between games. Ralph and Rod both had programs on the computers that did the ice by how many team there was! With 3 to 4 hour between games!
I was told parents want to play 2 games in the morning and be done for the day!
1st I spent 3 days getting a level 4 coaching card at that time we were taught that for every 1 hour of play it takes 2 hour for the body to recover so a 1:20 min game should have 2:40 of rest. 2nd we go out of town play 1 game in morning eat lunch spend $15 to $30 then play 1 game in the afternoon sometimes eat dinner spend $15 to $30
So a team of 15 player are spending $225 to $450 a day times 10 teams = $2,000 to $4000 every Saturday plus Sunday into the local business now we tell them come play 1 games wait 1 hour play 1 more in the morning a get the hell out! We don’t want you to eat or shop here Cheboygan already has too much money! (Wake UP!) Who pays for ads in the rink so people to spend money with them! Business of Cheboygan.
5: The rink is not as big a moneymaker as it once was within 60 mile you have 8 indoor ice rinks.
6: It looks like the left hand didn’t know what the left hand is doing any more!
Here’s what should have been done!
Gave more home ice to the younger teams at the beginning and more to the midgets after the high School Draft is done. This crap that nothing can be done until after that is bull you know there will be a team even if it a B or BB there is still going to be a team! Plan for it!
We had 3 squirts team 1 of 9, 2 of 10 should be two team 1 of 14, 1of 15 with ½ ice practice not 1/3 that would have made more ice for home games in the midgets!
Had 19 mites playing 1 game on ½ ice until Jan 1st why not have 2 away team here play 1 game on each end! Make for two games for each mite team free up more ice?
There are so many things you people don’t know what’s happening in the back ground that is unaccounted for. Even the Rats know when to leave a sinking ship!
I tried to bring this to the Presidents Att. But he didn’t want to hear it and said I didn’t know what I was talking about.
I ran my own business since 1979. I think I know more about a business then someone one who worked for someone else that get paid even if business is bad! A 9 to 5 or 40 hour a week worker!
So, I did the best I could do with what I was given to work with! I DID NOT PICK OR WAS OFFERED ANY OTHER Choice.
So don’t blame me for your game times the blame falls on Roy, Charlie, Craig and your coach for not working with me or addressing this before the season started!
